GNLF doubts BJP on Gorkhaland issue Kurseong, 2 July: The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) has said that the BJP must okay a Gorkhaland Bill in the Lok Sabha if it is ‘really sincere’ about its assurances of forming a separate state of Gorkhaland for Darjeeling Hills. “If this happens, the GNLF party will too keep appreciating the BJP,” the GNLF Kurseong branch spokesperson, Daya Dewan, said today. Mr Dewan said he has doubts about the BJP’s sincerity on the issue of Gorkhaland. He added that such doubts stem from the recent speech made by Darjeeling’s BJP MP, SS Ahluwalia, in Kurseong, who had said that his party has the full mandate in the Lok Sabha, but not in the Rajya Sabha. A nod from both the houses is required for a Bill to be passed. “Such a statement proves that the BJP senior leader Mr Ahluwalia had actually been campaigning for the 2016 assembly elections only,” Mr Dewan said, adding that the people in the Hills have been misled. He said that the BJP does not have sufficient mandate in West Bengal, “but as soon as the mandate increases in Bengal in the coming assembly polls, it will be unfortunate for the demand of Gorkhaland.”
