GNLF rally in Kurseong cancelled To be held post Pujas KURSEONG, 21 Sep 2014: The Gorkha National Liberation Front cancelled its proposed rally in Kurseong today due to incessant rainfall and has decided to conduct the raly after the festival season of Puja. The permits for the rally was obtained after prolonged negotiations with the Police and Sub-divisional Administration, but unfortunately was proved to be a failed effort due to the rains. Expressing his dissatisfaction, the GNLF spokesperson, Daya Dewan said earlier it was easy for the party to hold rallies in Kurseong, but the administration has become more stricter these days, resulting the prolonged and delayed permits for such assemblies. As per the permit, the Hills party was permitted to hold the rally from Fatak Dara to Kurseong motor stand in the town today. Dewan said the party had proposed the rally to be held along the NH-55, but the police administration denied the permit citing traffic congestion. Notably, the GNLF has been holding a series of rallies and peaceful protests demanding the resurrection of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council until the implementation of the Sixth Schedule. Dewan also informed the rally will now be held after the Puja festivals. [The Echo of India]
