GOD DRIVES AWAY YOUR FEARS October 5 /2013 Scripture reading: Psalm 46:2 We will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." (Psalm 46:2) The next time you’re at church, in a mall or at a sporting event, look at the people all around you. Then consider this: Each person is deeply afraid of something. Losing a child, health issues, problems on the job. Can you relate? What has the power to make you sweat bullets? Disease? Disaster? Death? Psalm 46 is a hymn of trust sung by the ancient Israelites. It gives us insight into overcoming our unique fears. There are no “simple steps to follow”; the psalm simply reminds us of God. If God really is who he says he is, we need never be cowering souls who live in dread. When a crisis looms in our path, our natural instinct is to panic. Precisely the opposite response is called for in Psalm 46. We need to be silent (or “still”—see verse 10) and focus on the fact that God is God. GOD’S PROMISE TO ME • You don’t have to fear because I am ready to help you in times of trouble. MY PRAYER TO GOD ~ O God, you are my strong help in times of trouble. Forgive me for the times when I act as though you don’t exist. I do not have to fear, no matter what I face. Teach me to pull back from troubles and focus on you. Amen! ~
