GOD IN THE MIDDLE THE MIDWIVES...FEARED GOD AND DID NOT DO WHAT THE KING OF EGYPT HAD TOLD THEM TO DO; THEY LET THE BOYS LIVE. EX 1:17 NIV It is easy to become overwhelmed by the massiveness of evil. It is visible on every hand. It is powerful. Much is also invisible and only comes to public attention on occasions. It can be very depressing and many Christians across the centuries have wondered why God allows it to go seemingly unchecked and unrestrained. But it is not the only force at work. Here and there humble men and woman of God stand up for what they know is right. For the simple truth is that God is present and active in his world as well. The conflict may appear most of the time to be going to the forces of evil. Conflict it is, make no mistake about that, but time and again the forces of good have come out on top as well. The Hebrew midwives in Egypt defied the kings order to murder the baby boys. It took enormous courage for them to do so - they probably risked their lives in doing what was right. Like many after them they decided to obey God rather than man. God was alive and well in ancient Egypt and some were prepared to honour him and promote his cause. He was not going to succumb to the will of a tempprary human ruler. It has been repeated many times across the years. The early Christians faced death rather than submit to the Roman Emperor when that person demanded their unquestioning loyalty. Search your own heart and mind on questions of public concern and consider whether you too need to take a costly stand for Gods cause. Lord, give me the courage to stand for you.
