GOD IS GOOD... BBD RIP TORCH.... Today we are so blessed to have had a sunny day to celebrate such a great buck. I would have to say the hunt started with a very cold and windy day in the Nebraska sand hills. I had one of my good friends Dylan Robbins filming this hunt. The morning was slow and filled with nice mule deer encounters. I personally had set a goal to shoot a mature whitetail buck this season. With hard work scouting and plotting to shoot a buck it was not coming together if I settled. After all of the hard winds and sudden snow storm the night before I had a feeling. God really placed a gut feeling inside me to hunt this one set of trees for the pm hunt and Dylan said he would sit it out with me to film. The temperatures were falling to 1 degree by dark so we knew the hunt would be the coldest hunt of the year from a tree stand. Heck the coldest hunt ever.... We sat through 30 mph winds and cold blowing snow to finally see god bless us with sunlight. After putting some time in freezing, we noticed movement in the woods next to us... Doe one was spotted.... soon after her we noticed more and more movement in the thick snow covered brush. I was filming a small buck with the Go-pro and heard the words we all wait for.... BIG BUCK< BIG BUCK.... I looked over and a real nice 9 point with one broken side slipped into view. Soon after he showed he started to nose the girls around in and out of the brush. This buck was mature and a great deer but my bar was set just a bit higher. Soon after filming him messing with the girls I saw the young stud run up next to our tree. I pulled out my buck grunt call or should I say my buddies grunt call he left in a stand of mine and hit it a number... Grunting one good long grunt with a couple small grunts I saw the big buck perk up... I did the same series again but this time added a short snort wheeze. After doing this the buck looked dead at us... 10 seconds later Dylan said BIG BUCK BIG BUCK.... this time I noticed a stud posturing up the road coming straight in looking for a fight. Boy I knew who this deer was.... Torch!!!!! The buck was all in the cameras last week and here he was coming straight in... He turned to the right and looked to jump the fence to head into the thick brush. I ask Dylan... you got him???? you got him??? Finally I hear him say YES in a frustrated voice as if I was deaf LOL. God had us going through lots of emotion just before the hunt was going to come to a close. We had bags all out and batteries getting swapped out of the cameras just before the shot because the cold was hammering the battery life.... needless to say God calmed my nerves and helped me pull of a great shot on this great buck. God is so so great... I am so blessed to have had so many things come together and to have Dylan film it perfect was nothing shy of a blessing from above.
