GOD WHO COMFORTS YOU! Evangeline Paul Dhinakaran In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. (Psalm 94:19) Beloved in Christ, When we face difficulties, we try to get comfort by telling it to our neighbor or family or relatives. It should not be like that dear one! We need to tell the Lord, when there is multitude of anxieties within us. Only then the Lord’s comfort will comfort us. David, His devotee says, “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”(Psalm 94:19) Some young people would ask me, “I love the Lord. But all my friends smoke, take drinks and have all bad habits. Yet they are well. Why this suffering for me, who love the Lord?” Dear one, sufferings come in order that we comfort others. We are partakers of Christ’s suffering. Sufferings multiply so that we would love the Lord more and work for Him. As the sufferings abound, so your consolation also abounds. When He comforts, that joy could never be expressed. About this the Bible says, ‘you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory’ (I Peter 1:8). The Bible says, “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy.” (Philippians 2:1) We see about Jacob in Genesis 37 Chapter. Since he loved Joseph more than the other sons, his brothers cast him into a pit. After that, when the Ishmaelites passed by that side, the brothers took him out of the pit and sold him to them for 20 shekels of silver. Finally, thinking that they needed to answer their father, they took Josephs tunic, which was given as a gift to him by his father, dipped it in the blood of a kid of the goats, showed it to Jacob and told a lie that Joseph was dead. On hearing it, Jacob lamented, saying “Alas, a wild beast has devoured my son’, tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days. All his sons arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted. When people comfort us, when they falsely console us, we never get comfort. But when the Lord comforts, what a great joy fills our heart! “Yet man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward. But as for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause; who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number. He gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields.” (Job 5:7-10) Like Job, who committed his cause to God, you too shall tell your cause to Him. Jesus says, “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?” (Luke 18:7) Hold on to these Scriptures in this New Year. Always tell within yourself, “The Lord will soon avenge me and answer me.” Surely He will reward you soon; He will comfort you. Prayer: Loving Heavenly Father, I praise You for You are the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. God, you know all my pains and sorrows. Your Word says “as a mother comforts her child, You comfort us.” This day, I plead You to be my comfort. Remind me of Your great love and comfort me in my difficult times. Let me feel Your divine presence and peace in my life and help me to comfort others as You have comforted me. I give You all glory and honor. In Your matchless name I pray, AMEN.
