GOD know you;re hurt Many areas of the brain are involved in the experience of pain. Findings published in the “ Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” indicated the brain cannot distinguish emotional pain from physical pain. One researcher wrote, “ While everyone accepts physical pain is real, people are tempted to think that social pain is in their heads, but physical and social pain may be more similar than we realized. We have all experienced it-rejection. Words can hurt as much as sticks and stones. Rejection is one of our most powerful and destructive emotions. It may cause as much distress in the pain center of the brain as an actual physical injury. Literally, a person’s words can either intensify or relieve stress. That is why the Bible says, “ Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” ( Proverbs 16:24). The melancholy poet, Edgar Allan Poe, said, “ I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.” Every person hurts different. Taking prescription medication for a real illness, such as clinical depression or severe anxiety, is appropriate. Taking a pill to heal the body is commendable. But taking a pill to merely deaden emotions is both tragic and inappropriate. Emotional and physical pain, at the hand of God, has a precise and necessary impact in our lives. God knows what kind of pain and how much we need, and how much we can actually handle. Emotional pain is like an alarm. When we push it away, deny or medicate it, we are in reality pushing away important warning signs of stress. I don’t think it was God’s intention when He created us that we ignore or medicate emotional pain. Jesus suffered, not to save us from suffering, but to teach us how to bear suffering. He knows there is no such thing as a life free from In times of angst, we are like a city under siege, attacked by fear and doubt. Our pain and suffering tends to separate us from God. This is the worst part of pain- the damage it can do to our view of and relationship with God. Feelings of abandonment or disfavor creep in. why did God let this happen? Do not fold under hardship or lose hope. Faith is the fort we take refuge in. no matter how desperate the situation becomes, genuine faith will not fail. It cannot fail because it holds on tight to the Spirit, and it doesn’t fail!! How well do you handle the pain in your Life?
