GOLDEN EAGLETS AND THE FUTURE OF NIGERIAN SOCCER Nigerians are still basking in the euphoria of the recent victory of the under 17 football team, the golden Eaglets and the just concluded world cup at Abu dabi. Trully it was class, i didnt not watch any game fully, but reports i have is that the team brings much hope. Hmmmmmm. I dont mean to be pessimistic but i dont share that hope, for a long time i have never been interested in nigerias under 17,20,23 tournaments. We have a football federation that beleives its always about winning, so many atimes we take over aged players to these tournaments, shine on there and after that the players disappear. Where is solomon okoronkwo, where is issac promise, where is chinedu ogbuke, where is taye taiwo, where is macualey christiantus, where is okoro??? They have vanished! Why? Because they were about 30years when they played under 17 tournaments. You cant claim to defeat teams in under 17 yet when you meet them at senior level you cant play against them, something is wrong! It means you cheated at under 17. The likes of spain have carefully groomed players through the ranks, xavi, iniesta, pedro, de gea have carefully come from under 17 to the senior level today. In nigeria i can only pick out Kanu and Mikel. So where did they all go??? Sometimes winning is not everything but the development you get. I want to assume that this time we did the right thing, so i hope to see these guys play for the senior twam by 2015 by then they should be 20 average or better still the olympics. I have taken note of IHEANACHO, i will use him as my hypothesis. We shall see then. All the same, congratulations so called Golden Eaglets.
