GOMOS ADVOCATES GOVERNOR FROM SOUTHERN PLATEAU By Shabul Mazadu As the 2015 general elections draw near, horse-trading and anxiety over which zone produces the next governor dominates the political landscape of the State. However, amongst those who are touting for the next governor of the state to come from the southern zone of the state is Mr. Ezekiel Gomos, former Secretary to the Plateau State Government. In a document made available to The Beacon, Gomos opined that it was the zoning principle that prompted the two major political parties in the 2007 general elections; the Action Congress (AC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to present their gubernatorial candidates from the Northern Zone, he continued, you will recollect that we had Architect Pam Dung Gyang of the AC and Air Commodore (rtd) Jonah David Jang of the PDP where the latter emerged. In my opinion, the fact that Governor Jang comes from the northern zone of the state presupposes that the next governor should naturally come from the southern zone which last produced a governor in 1993 and we know how that dispensation ended. Gomos who is the proprietor of the famous Jos Business School further stated qualities he expects to see in the next governor. Having known that governance is such a serious business, we hope to find someone who will consolidate on the infrastructural and agricultural developments on ground now, a set of people who will broker peace by moving and reconciling communities and finding lasting solutions to underlying communal crises in the state. I envisage that the next governor will be business friendly and committed to building strong partnerships with the private sector and international organizations, this way, investments that will create jobs and wealth will be attracted, he said.
