GOOD! just outside Atlanta, I can tell you my own story about Cobb County. And in Atlanta proper, too. In Cobb i wnent to traffic court following an accident on a rainy wet hill when I couldnt stop although there were at least 200 yards between me and the next car in front of me, and I wasnt speeding either. I just was new to Atlanta, used to flat Phoenix, and unable to stop. So there I am expecting it to be just like AZ, where you go to court, find out if you cant get the charges dismissed what the fine will be. In AZ you then had 30 days to pay....Turns out if you dont pay RIGHT THEN AND THERE, AND IN CASH ONLY, you get locked up, which I did, my boss had to send somebody all the way out there with $75 (in 1990) to pay my fine so I could get back to work, and GET THIS: I had my six year old daughter with me, and they were 5minutes away from putting her into a foster home if my coworker hadnt gotten there with the money in time. Another woman, who PAID HER BUSINESS TAXES with her checking account, WAS LOCKED UP TOO for not having the CASH. Well Cobb County (City of Smyrna) found out the following week, when the weekly newspaper I worked for printed our stories, and they got the embarrassment they deserved. In Atlanta, Ive seen a cop THREATEN (in 1990 also) to put your ass in jail because one of the poets at our reading in the busy L5P public square used the word damn in his poem...... so the next poet, a kid who was about 20 STRIPPED DOWN TO HIS SOCKS and read his poem. BAW HAW HAW. the cop was already gone around the corner by then and was none the wiser. Now they have cameras out there.
