GOP Questions HHS’ Projected Premium Drop. The Washington Times (7/23, Howell) “Inside Politics” blog reports that on Monday, Congressional Republicans “accused the Obama administration of withholding data on insurance premiums because it would undermine positive trends the White House touted last week while promoting the health care law.” In a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the Republicans wrote, “We believe it is essential that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provide transparent pricing as soon as possible for the millions of Americans who will be impacted by this law.” The Hill (7/23, Baker) “Healthwatch” blog reports that the Republicans were seeking “more information about health insurance premiums under ObamaCare.” Because, so far, HHS “has not yet released rate information for the 34 states in which it will operate the new insurance exchanges.” CQ (7/23, Attias, Subscription Publication) reports that in the letter to Sebelius, the Republicans “expressed concern that individuals, families and small businesses will not have sufficient time to plan for premium increases that the Republicans say can be expected in 2014 because of the overhaul.”
