GOSPEL EMBASSY GLOBAL MISSION CHURCH SUNDAY SERVICE SERMON DATE: 06/09/2013 SUBJECT: MOVED BY LOVE TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING GOD’S LOVE BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 1:26-31 INTRODUCTION As Church, one of our greatest values is Love It is my sincere prayer and desire that in all our actions and life we are moved by nothing but Love. Last Sunday I had prepared a message, but I think it was not what God wanted us to learn, because right before I started speaking, the Holy Spirit strongly impressed me to talk about Love, and as such, He has been pressing it so much upon my heart to talk about it so much more in this season. So we are going to learn about the subject “MOVED BY LOVE” for some weeks or so and, Today, under the same subject, we are going to look at a title, “ UNDERSTANDING GOD’S LOVE” MAIN BODY Love is the most important virtue in a Christian’s life Love is beautiful, its lovely, its an awesome experience… it feels so nice to be loved, to know that someone loves you. Whatever form of love feels lovely Now, we are going to look at Love from God’s perspective, God’s Love In the Scripture we have just read in Genesis 1:26-31, We read about God’s creation of man… God created everything on this earth, and last of all He created man, Adam and Eve, When God created man, He was inspired by nothing but love I believe He foreknew the existence of man, hence He patterned creation toward that… The greatest thing that God has done as an expression of His love for man is the gift of His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the gift of Salvation; this is truth that most of us have been taught and know. But there are other things that He did, he is doing and He keeps on doing out of His love for you and me. Right from creation, God has stretched out His hand of love for us through deeds Today, let’s look at three (3) of the things that we see right at creation that express God’s Love for man as the character behind His actions: (I) GOD CREATED MAN LAST This was a deliberate move with deliberate motives and intentions, God did not create man last because other creations were of more importance, Neither should we be made to think that probably God forgot and only remembered at last that He needed man He created everything first because He was concerned about man’s welfare… Man had to find a home ready and conducive for habitation and his perfect welfare Man was not just a mere creation, but a special one, at whose disposal God put all other creation Out of Love, God provided for man’s needs right ahead of man’s creation!!! (II) GOD MADE MAN IN HIS IMAGE God did not just create man, but made Him in His own likeness, in His own image This gesture brethren speaks of intimacy in relationship between the Creator and man Nothing but love sparks the desire for an intimate relationship with someone God created man just like Himself, meaning that of all of God’s creation, only man was closest to the heart of God, Man in God’s own image means relationship between the earlier and his Creator, Children are only like their parents or atleast like one of the relatives to the parents, God was in love with man and initiated a relationship with him, such a close relationship that man was just like God Himself…having the same Spirit, the same mind, the same thoughts, desires and interests… the only thing that was different was their bodies, God had a Spiritual body whereas man had a physical one, and to this also, there was a motive, Which is that God created man to rule and dominate the physical realm while God Himself dominates the Spiritual but higher and overall realm. Here again we see love at full play (III) GOD ENTRUSTED MAN WITH ALL HIS CREATION We normally trust only the ones we love with our most precious things God out of trust born of love gave man to take care of all His creation Everything that God created, He put it in the hands of man and He gave man rule, control, charge, responsibility, over all things… God created all things for Himself, and took all that He created, that belonged to Himself and put them in the hands of man, Of course this was not without a demand for responsibility and accountability, And God trusted man’s responsibility, we see this in the reality that God let man name all creatures, and as he named them so they became ( Gen. 2:20), God never came back to edit “lol”. Now, such extent of trust can only exist where there is love CONCLUSION Brethren, God loves us. He expects us to love one another because He Himself loves us. We see in these three things we have looked at including God creating everything else before man as a preparation of a conducive home for man prior to his creation; the creation of man in the likeness of God as an expression of God initiating an intimate relationship with man; and God’s gift of dominion over all creation to man as an expression of trust, as deeds motivated by love. God loves us.
