GPRA Fans...a word from our President, John.. Dear Great Pyrenees Friends, First an update on Oso. We transferred Oso from our vet to our orthopedic, Matt, on Thursday and, since we believed he was hit by a car, Matt, as a precaution, did an x-ray on his chest. The leg became the minor issue when Matt discovered Oso had a diaphragmatic hernia and all his organs were outside his cavity. Oso would not have made it another 24 hours and Matt repaired the damage and then removed the bad leg. Oso has responded incredibly well, is up and walking around and Matt indicated he was ecstatic with the results and that Oso was tough as nails. He goes to the perfect foster tomorrow. I cannot emphasize enough that our ability to make quick decisions and the speed with which our people physically take control has been the difference between life and death for many of our rescues. In addition, all Cherokee Giants have been vetted and are under GPRA foster care. 2013 has been a remarkable year. From Moose to Kickstand to Lazarus to Django to the dozen Great Border Pups to Beethoven and now to Oso, time and time again our incredible GPRA people, with their time, money and most of all with their heart, have made our organization truly exceptional. It is an honor and privilege to work along side the quality people we have at GPRA . On behalf of our very active Board, THANK YOU!!! Unless we have a big litter of puppies to throw Bonnies way, we will rescue just under the 179 we saved last year. We have had more dramatic rescues this year, are averaging about $800 spent per rescue due to the heart worm positive Giants and those, like Oso, that require extensive surgeries and have brought in GPs from as far as North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. Without your support we could not provide the quality of care or the magnitude of rescues that we do so please consider GPRA in any year end contributions you may be considering. If you have one of our Gentle Giants, just imagine life without that soulful look, the PYR PAW and that stubborn personality!!! Thanks again and its going to be a PYRFECT 2014. John
