GRADUATE STUDENT OPPORTUNITY Fall 2013-Spring 2014 ISSS Intern: International Student and Scholar Services is looking for a part-time (approximately 10 hours per week) graduate intern beginning in Fall 2013. The intern will work on developing a mentor program for undergraduate international and domestic students. In addition, intern will learn immigration regulations and policies for F-1 and J-1 international student. Preference will be given to those in majors relating to higher education or international studies, and/or those interested in pursuing a career in international education. If interested, this internship can also be renewed for spring 2014 semester. This internship is unpaid, however can be done for course credit if it meets program requirements. Responsibilities: Development of ISSS Mentor Program: • Research current mentor programs that create interactions between international and domestic students at UIUC or other campuses; • Liaise with departments who could be potential partners (e.g., residence life, counseling center, academic departments); • Develop structure of mentor program including target audience, curriculum/guide for mentors and mentees, forms, and follow up and assessment of program; • If available, will pilot program in spring 2014. Advising: • Shadow ISSS advisors and learn basics of F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations; • Assist with welcome appointments for new international students; Applications must be received by Friday, August 9th.
