GRANT ASSISTANCE: For those getting confused or overwhelmed, below is a list of current grant programs that have been announced by Governor Christie (per the below site). The below link provides further information about the programs and instructions to apply online. There are NO programs currently on the list offering assistance to secondary homeowners. The website states: With a focus on the most impacted communities throughout the state, New Jersey is offering aid through grant awards to Homeowners who were impacted by Superstorm Sandy. The website provides important information to you on federally funded programs that have been designed to assist in the repair and rebuilding of primary owner occupied residences. You may apply to multiple programs. HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT (HMGP) ELEVATION PROGRAM Grant Amount: up to $30k Application Deadline: September 15, 2013 Restrictions: Primary Homeowners Only Eligible applicants can receive reimbursement of up to $30,000 for elevations on existing homes. Program is a reimbursement program to assist primary homeowners with the elevation of their single-family residences to meet the requirements of the flood insurance risk maps in affected communities. HOMEOWNER RESETTLEMENT PROGRAM Grant Amount: $10,000 Application Deadline: June 30, 2013 (Homeowners may apply after this date, but any application received after July 1, 2013 will be considered only after all of the applications from the initial period are processed) Restrictions: Primary Homeowners Only Program designed to encourage Homeowners to remain in Sandy homes. The funds may be used for any non-construction purpose that assist the homeowner to remain in, or return to, the County in which they lived prior to Sandy. REHABILITATION, RECONSTRUCTION, ELEVATION AND MITIGATION (RREM) PROGRAM Grant Amount: up to $150,000 Application Deadline: August 1, 2013 Restrictions: Primary Homeowner Only Program to assist primary homeowners repair or rebuild their Sandy impacted homes. Will assist in Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) to comply with requirements for structures located in flood plains. The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has contracted with a RREM Program Manager to assist Homeowners throughout the construction process. The RREM Program Manager will work with you to develop specifications for the work to be completed, obtain bids from a builder, assign a builder to each Homeowner, inspect the construction while it is in progress, and approve payments to the builder. SANDY HOMEBUYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Loan Amount: up to $50,000 (No Interest) Application Deadline: Unknown Restrictions: Low and Moderate-income borrowers Program to assist low and moderate income borrowers purchase homes in disaster areas. No required monthly payments and loan is forgiven in full after 5 years. LANDLORD RENTAL REPAIR PROGRAM Grant Amount: up to $50,000 Application Deadline: Unknown Restrictions: Rental Properties (full-time) - No Summer Rentals Restrictions: Must Rent to Low or Moderate income families The Program provides up to $50,000 per Sandy-damaged unit to assist eligible landlords of rental property to repair damaged by Sandy. To be eligible for the award, the landlord must then rent the repaired unit(s) to low or moderate income families at approved affordable rents. LANDLORD INCENTIVE PROGRAM Grant Amount: Unknown, case by case basis Application Deadline: May 31, 2014 Restrictions: Low and Moderate income families The purpose of this program is to provide project-based incentive payments to qualified rental property owners to: (1) quickly address the need for affordable housing in the State that has been exacerbated by Sandy and (2) provide for the immediate needs of displaced low and moderate income households PLEASE SHARE. ~JSHRN
