GRATITUDE SPEECH FROM THE SPEAKER TO THE COUNTY ASSEMBLY INTRODUCTION The Deputy Speaker, the Leader of Majority, the Leader of Minority, Honourable Members, the Assembly Clerk and his staff, distinguished guests, citizens of Kiambu county, members of the 4th estate, fans of face book and other social media good afternoon. THANKS I stand before you with absolute humility to thank you the Hon members for having elected me. Once again I say thank you. For those who did not vote for me, you exercised your constitutional rights. Nevertheless I will be the Speaker for all and will in fact try to bring those who did not vote for me closer, and to appreciate and act on the reasons for non support. TENSIONAL It has been a tensional time since 27th February 2014 to today due to the campaigns and other various events surrounding this election which I need not repeat. I wish to thank my very worthy competitors, Hon John Mugwe, Hon Peter Kangethe Njau, Hon Julie Waweru, Hon Agatha Wambui and Margaret Dehi. In you I met Gentlemen/ Ladies who have the interest of the county at heart and I look forward to working with you. Our campaign was civilized and devoid of personal attacks. However the campaigns made me visit many wards of the county and I appreciate the new experiences in those areas. COUNTY INTERESTS This is a 1st county. Our President is from here. We need to make this county the best by implementing our constitutional mandate. Up there are young “Kiambuians”. They are now on face book, Kironwo wakimwe, Shujaa karanja, Njemba Njemba, Muturi unigi and others. They will often criticize us but it shall be because we hold in our hands their aspirations, jobs, leadership and the way forward. We need to make laws for the betterment of the county. We should not let them down. LEADERSHIP I am aware of the recent events in this house. I however do not want you to compare me with anyone. I shall offer a humble , consultative, fair, just and independent leadership. I shall try to balance the conflicting interests between the different organs of government of the county with the understanding that all these organs are geared towards betterment of the Kiambu citizens. MY CONSTITUENCY The 87 Hon Members are my constituency. I shall endeavour to always look after their welfare by all means possible. That is my main mandate. I shall be the face of the Assembly to the whole world and implement all my agendas I supplied you with. CONCLUSION Finally I am taking office at a time when you have been here for a year. I will heed your advice, directions and input. Your experience will come in handy. You are the political elites of the county. To paraphrase what the sages of the old in their great wisdom stated together we shall make it, divided we must surely fall. My sincere gratitude to my family, relatives and friends who have supported me throughout my campaigns and finally to my late mother who died so many years ago when I young and who in- calculated in me the richness of life in serving and in being humble.
