GREAT CHALLENGES LIE AHEAD FOR THE GAMBIA The Gambia will be the super-power of development, and that is why I am a dictator of development. In few years, The Gambia will be Africas silicon valley. The Gambia will be the Dubai of Africa in the next five years. The Gambia will soon join the group of donor countries. Power failure will soon be a thing of the past. For my government, the sky is the limit.By 2016, The Gambia will not only be food self-sufficient, we will expert to other countries, under Vision 2016. And countless more nocturnal babbles from The Gambias Chief Merchant of Deception. You dont run a country through hollow idealism, populist slogans and ill-conceived adhoc programs. When you kill innovation, creativity, opportunity and choice, you effectively asphyxiate a nation and zap it off its lifeline. When there is no realistic vision, there will be no realistic programs to move the nation forward. Government projects fail due to lack of proper planing, haphazard execution and lack of sustainability mechanisms. Policies are not properly designed, stakeholders are not consulted, and the budgeting process despicable. The disastrous consequences of Yaya Jammehs handling of our economy, will not be resolved in the first term of any new government. It is therefore likely that the next government of The Gambia will not meet the high expectations of Gambians, due to the excessive accumulated burdens it will inherit, minus the critical task of total reform and/or construction of state institutions, etc. It will require real sacrifice, commitment and understanding from all Gambians, and the new government may likely not succeed due to public impatience for rapid improvements. The next government should be razor-sharp focused on resolving long term challenges that have been neglected, with a realistic vision to lay strong foundation for our nations greatness. Due to high expectations from the public which it will not adequately meet initially, it must be accommodating of ensuing public reaction and aspirations. It must alo be capable of effectively managing gratuitous distractions. We have more difficult years ahead. The challenge is yet to begin. I am confident that our Nation, The Gambia shall succeed. It is our Destiny.
