GREAT NEWS FRIENDS!! After a lot of discussion and debate our adoption rates have been set! Most already know; it is a State of Georgia Law that each animal has to be spayed or neutered if adopted from a shelter, and we as a shelter are held responsible to enforce this law. As most of you know we at the City of Calhoun have been working diligently to lower our already low euthanization rate as much as possible and we wanted to offer each adopter a spay/neuter certificate with each adoption, but with the spay/neuter operations costing as they do we were going to have to raise our adoption fee a considerable amount to cover the operation. This is a problem we have been discussing for a while. So the Mayor and Council stepped up to help these animals and the citizens of Calhoun. It has been decided that the City of Calhoun will charge an adoption fee of $60 for cats and dogs and the City will cover the remainder of the amount already discussed with each participating vet. In return we will give the adopter a spay/neuter and rabies certificate with the animal. The adopter will then take the animal to one of the three participating veterinarians to get the work done. The veterinarian will in return send the certificate into the City for reimbursement. We believe this is going to raise our adoption rates therefore lowering our euthanization rates! We are going to continue to work hard for the citizens and animals of Calhoun. We believe every step we take in the right direction leads to another. We look forward to new and great things to come, and we know with the support of everyone Calhoun Animal Control will continue to improve. Thanks to everyone for all the help.
