GRIDIRON GURU GRAFFITI & GOSSIP...WEEK 9 USC @ Oregon St./ Oregon St. in a close one ( I love pulling against USC) Ohio State makes pudding out of Purdue Northern Illinois gives UMass a massive whippin Breaks my heart but Wisconsin goes into Kinnick and handles Iowa Army @ Air Force/ Falcons fly high in this one Bryant @ Robert Morris/ I aint got a clue... Furman @ Georgia Southern/ good one here, Ill take Southern by 1 - home advantage Ill take Clemson at Virginia but they make me nervous - so inconsistent Michigan gets beat at Michigan State who has a darn good football team Notre Dame bores us with another patsy win I feel like I need a shower after this pick...Florida beats Georgia 43-34 Northwestern at Neb./ pullin for Chicago - Neb. coach is a snot-nosed punk Auburn @ Arkansas/ Auburn is for real - win by14 Okla. St @ Texas Tech/ Tech wins at home ( possible both have 500 plus offense) Punks from Miami get it handed to em at Bobby Bowden Bowl UCLA bounces back with trouncing of Colorado A&M gets arrested for cruelty to dumb animals in win over UTEP 101-0. Mizzou beats Tennessee who will be better next year (very young - good coach) Fresno wins again (Nevada) but they are not as good as Northern Ill. Alabama is off this week so they can put quality time into designing their National Championship rings. Here recently the Guru ahs been wondering what ever happen to these programs - once proud and successful - now just perennial losers: Colorado/ Grambling/ Pittsburg. And dont you wish Army could somehow rise from the ashes and win 10 games? Man, I do. How I wish I could just attend one game at West Point before time runs out. And the Heisman race...dadgum theres a log jam at the top. My vote? Famous Jamis 1, Johnny Football 2, Mariotta 3, and McCaren 4. Biggest disappointment of the year so far has to be Clowney - theres some disconnect there with him. And the team that is really good that no one knows about this year...Washington. That makes for two very good Husky teams this season...most loyal, informed and proud fans in the country? Youre going to hate me for this I know...ALABAMA. Finishing up my book, BURY ME WITH MY WHISTLE - should be on sale the first of the year...best football book youll ever read! Enjoy your Saturday! Stay with me...Offensive lines have become so mammoth even the D3s have 3-4 300lbers up front. The D1s have no one under 6 3 and 300 to 340lbs. Which means defensively as much as you would like to have super fast DL and LBers - you cant! Youd have to play smaller guys and they would get mauled. So, defenses emphasize size while the offenses emphasize speed. And the speed of the skill people in the NFL/ D1/etc cover more ground than ever before. 4.3 guys are a dime a dozen now...the field is still the same size...the defense is the same speed and ability to cover ground as they were 15 years ago...the offenses are measurably faster than 15 years ago including 6 5 receivers with 4.3 speed and 42 verts. DBs remain 60. QBs today are huge, almost all are 64 to 6 5 and much stronger than 15 years ago. So the offense is faster, taller and stronger arms. Defense just cant cover or defend turf as in days gone by - they are just out-gunned! Thus sayeth the GURU... 6 hours ago · Like · 2 Teddy Knapp Looking back (as we always do) I wish I had picked away at your genius more often. Youll always be the smartest football guy Ive ever met. (We wont count the Hannibal) 3 hours ago via mobile · Like Ted Rock Knapp The only and mean one and only reason the Hannibal did not work effectively was we had no shotgun snapper that could get the ball to the trigger man with velocity and consistency...it killed timing and execution. If I had had Joel Comeaux at center (which was also an eligible receiver) can you even imagine what that package could have done??? Joel was an unstoppable receiver at 6 4, incredible hands and a vert of about 36-40. And, he was the best deep snapper Ive still ever seen in high school. The Hannibal still lives in my heart!!! about a minute ago · Like Ted Rock Knapp Write a comment...
