GROUP GUIDELINES AND PURPOSE: Please read and then feel free to comment and suggest anything that you think of as we navigate through our teething phase *********** This is Australia Wide!! Here are the important details about this group: We have set this group up because as Quirky Eaters, we truly know the benefits nourishing foods have on our bodies and when we are ill, this becomes even more vital to allow our bodies to heal. Further, hospitals aren’t always able to cater to allergies etc and often do not provide a very nourishing meal. We aim to provide assistance with meals for people who are in hospitals, particularly public ones (private hospitals usually can better accommodate dietary requirements). At this early stage of the group we are focusing on hospital stays due to illness or accident but if you are in extreme need for other unexpected reasons feel free to send your request through. FAQ I need help – what do I do? If you need help, please apply the following format. IM the group admin – if you aren’t getting a response please tag Christine Davie. Kris Jones, Deb Downer or Jessica Mudri Please specify the hospital you’re in (and ward) and for how long you expect to be there, (if known). Please list any specific food requirements such as dairy free gluten free vegan etc. Note Anphylactic allergens. Also it would be helpful to specify if you have access to heating and refrigeration facilities. Please include mobile contact and the contact details of a local friend or family to act as liaison. Please be as thorough, but concise as possible. The page admins will call for help by mentioning the hospital you are in and your expected stay but your name will not be mentioned. People offering to help will be given the details you have provided including your and/or your liaison’s mobile phone number. We may give you a code name like Miss S or Family A just for our admin purposes. How can I thank you? When you are recovered please don’t feel you have to go to any trouble thanking those that helped you. If you feel like it, PM the page admin and we will share that on the list (you don’t need another job on your to do list.) Be sure to pay it forward when you are well and back on your feet. TO our HELPERS IF YOU CAN HELP, please write the following under the original post: QHH IS COMING. Then please list what you are able to provide to assist. Ideally specify what you are bringing, eg Meatballs and salad and when, eg DINNER TIME so that ideally the sick person isn’t inundated with the same meal. More than one person can assist, but to ensure we arent wasteful, please list what you can do to help so that others are aware. If you have questions, feel free but I’d love to keep all posts as clean as possible. Can I bring processed or purchased food? This is a group that knows the value of home cooked food with as little processing as possible, so perhaps the test should be if you would eat it then take it along. Please don’t be offended if the person ends up binning it if they don’t want to eat it for whatever reason. People’s appetite can be different in hospital. If you are Posting a General question, this is totally fine, please lead with QUESTION PLEASE. DISCLAIMER: IF you suffer from any ANAPHYLAXIS please remember that this is all volunteer and that your request is at your discretion. Ideally those that have the same anaphylaxis issues in their own home should be the only ones to take on such cases, but this will not always be possible and you will have to use your own discretion eating the provided food. For FOOD INTOLERANCES OR ALLERGIES please thoroughly list these and again remember that this is at your discretion. If there is preferences you have, absolutely list those, but remember that this is purely from the generosity of others, so whilst I’m sure everyone will endeavour to keep everyone happy, its sustaining each other that is most important. When you have prepared a meal or foods for someone please LIST ALL INGREDIENTS. Perhaps if you follow a recipe, try to print it. Please use only disposable dishes or dishes that you dont care if they never return. Delivery instructions are to preferable made via PRIVATE messages between the person REQUESTING and the person ASSISTING. This is to maintain some level of privacy. Jess Mudri phone number is 0409 080 984 or Chris Davie 0411409859 for emergencies only. Please preferably PM or or attempt to PM the person with whom you are dealing. THANK YOU AND SO SO MUCH QHH LOVE is going to overrun the nation!!! When delivering meals the covering story is that your quirky friend is delivering a meal – if hospitals think this is some sort of commercial service (which it is not) they may try to ban it. This is just friends (who haven’t met yet) delivering meals… As such no payment can change hands of course and whilst all care is taken no responsibitly can be taken by the page admins, the meal provider or anyone else if something goes wrong. To anyone who gets involved with this service, please IM all feedback and ideas to page, as it is very new we are still working out the best logistical strategy.
