GTF, BGP to support Morcha if it scraps GTA KALIMPONG, 2 Aug 2013: With the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha already under pressure following the centre’s approval of Telengana, rivals in the Hills too have started pushing GJM chief Bimal Gurung to scrap the GTA. They contend that unless the GJM dissociates itself from the autonomous body, it cannot be trusted. The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) and Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) had on Thursday organised a meeting in Kalimpong on the statehood demand and their support to the cause. Addressing the media later, GTF leaders said they would support the GJM if it abrogates the GTA. “If the GJM dismisses the GTA and continues with the movement for statehood honestly, we will fully support them,” said GTF chairman Sukman Moktan. He added the GTA is an obstacle in the path of Gorkhaland and the GJM has realised this now. Moktan stressed on the need of leading the movement with all stakeholders joining hands. He added the GTF would soon take to the streets protesting against the GTA and burn the tripartite agreement. Meanwhile, GTF general secretary Munish Tamang expressed dissatisfaction with the response of the Gorkha community residing elsewhere in the country on the statehood issue. He said, “We will keep agitating for Gorkhaland. We do not care if Telangana is created or not.”
