Gabe has developed a sweet friendship with his one of his classmates this year. There are only three of them in his class, he and his one of his friends from last year, both on the spectrum, and a girl who has Downs Syndrome (well call her C). Gabe has taken up with C and she just thinks he is the greatest. Gabe has trouble opening things, like ziplock bags, chip bags, inserting the straw into his Capri Sun. He started bringing his things to her to help him. Thats a big deal. He only does that with people he likes and trusts. C is loving that she gets to help him...it makes her feel important and needed. The teacher said it has been so good for both of them. They are learning from each other. His teacher said they often sit together and C has taken a sort of mother hen role with Gabe. The teachers say it is the most beautiful thing to watch. I havent had the opportunity see it yet...but I cant wait. There are so many things I could mourn for him about. Hes in 3rd grade, yet the highlight of his day is kindness. No fluff. No extra crap. Not tainted by the world. Just heart. Both of those kids know where its at. Theyve got the good stuff. Makes you wonder whats wrong with the world sometimes...
