Gabriola Island, British Columbia: Settled hundreds of years ago - TopicsExpress

Gabriola Island, British Columbia: Settled hundreds of years ago by First Nation people, it was then discovered by Spanish (including Valdez), then by the English (George Vancouver) and the English began settling here from the 1850s. Gabriola was found again in the 1970s by the hippies. It is now a thriving arts center with 53 studios. Were just missing their terrific theatre festival which begins in 3 weeks. 1st photo: the arbutus tree, which is a fascinating red. The wood in the older trees is blood red. 3rd photo: David and Rebecca Gatlin-Watts sit on one of the beaches on the huge runaway logs. We see floating acres of cut lumber logs coming down the straight, so its no surprise that these escaped logs are found on most beaches.
