Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. The flesh and the Spirit have opposite desires manifesting opposite results. If we indulge one, the other will automatically be hindered. We cannot serve both. You can only do one, that’s the way God made us. So, Don’t try and take the negative approach of denying the flesh in order to manifest the power of the Spirit. The more positive way is to seek to walk in the Spirit and the flesh will be denied through neglect. For example --- before I was born-again one of the things I did was use a lot of profanity in my daily life. However my mind was so stayed on Jesus that after 3 months a looked back and realized I had not used one word of profanity. But the flesh want to be what only the Spirit can be. The flesh also wants to be the source and resource what only the Spirit can be. The Flesh also want a counterfeit what the Spirit wants/does. The flesh is jealous of whatever the Spirit gives, provides. The flesh says I can do it better I can to it bigger The flesh says the it can give you whatever the Spirit says you can have. It is jealous of your spirit and lusteth against you spirit. You see ---- in the Spirit and by the Spirit you have the mind of Christ. By the Spirit and in the Spirit --- Jesus has become your very wisdom. Wisdom is in the Spirit. Wisdom is in Jesus. It is yours --- it is the mind of Christ. The flesh says that you do not need the Spirit ---- look how well you are achieving by yourself. By the Spirit and in the Spirit there is POWER to live a righteous life. The flesh coverts this --- it is envious of that. The flesh says that you do not need Jesus as your righteousness. The flesh says that you do not need the Spirit of God as your righteousness. Hey, Look here, here are some rules ---- just keep them. You can be righteous without God. You can be smart without God and without the Spirit of God. It is --- jealous. The Spirit of God says that you are going to be a father of many nations but the flesh says that you do not need God nor His Spirit. You do not need to be patient nor wait on God. You do not need to seek God. Look at Hagar. What’s this Spirit thing? Whats this seeking God, I am jealous of the Spirit. Let’s have an Ismael The Spirit if going to produce this? The Spirit is going to make this? Come over here --- I can produce it quicker.
