Galilee Parents’ Memo FRIDAY 7TH MARCH, 2014 Dear - TopicsExpress

Galilee Parents’ Memo FRIDAY 7TH MARCH, 2014 Dear Parents, Yet another wonderful week at Galilee. We are now at the half way mark of the Term with all testing completed and children well into their studies. In the past, Galilee has offered specialist lessons on three days. The school has grown to the point where we now offer specialist classes over the five days. This was always going to test the timetable and its flexibility. I’m happy to report we have had no issues whatsoever. Our specialist timetable and normal classroom activities are running as smoothly as we would have expected. Our Leadership Team members are now also visiting classes and supporting teachers through instructional leadership, modelling and working with individual students according to their needs. Overall, a wonderful first half of the Term. YEAR 5&6 CANBERRA CAMP: This commences on Tuesday 11th March. Students will depart by bus from the school grounds at 7.15am so those who are attending the camp will need to be at school by no later than 7.00am. Those parents who have medicines to hand over to staff should be at school at 6.45am so information can be conveyed with little rush. Staff attending Camp include: Mr. Martello, Mrs Price, Miss Romios, Mrs Florenca-Grillo, Miss Giles, Miss Hart, Mr Mitchell, Mr Maltese & Miss O’Connell. PRINCIPAL CONFERENCE: Just a reminder that I will be on a Principal Conference from Wednesday 12th March – Friday 14th March. During this time all concerns can be directed to Mrs Mal Orr who will be Teacher In Charge. ASSEMBLIES: At our last two school assemblies on the Tuesday afternoon, it has become apparent that our school is far too big to have an effective assembly in the hall. When our hall was first built it was built for a capacity of no more that 200 people. Unfortunately, or fortunately depends how one looks at the situation, we have grown as a school. We now boast numbers of 330 students. At any given assembly we can have anywhere up to 50-75 parents. Add a further 28 staff members and the hall has exceeded its capacity. Therefore, staff has met on many occasions since the last assembly to discuss how our assemblies can be best presented without the constant noise and restlessness caused by the over crowdedness. We have decided that for the remainder of this Term assemblies will be held each morning at 8.45am. During this time awards will be presented, messages conveyed etc. all spaced out throughout the week. Obviously, in the event of bad weather e.g. rain, the assembly will be cancelled. Please note that this is a trial only for the remainder of this Term. We will evaluate this process at the conclusion of this Term. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent / Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 2nd April and Thursday 3rd April between 4.00pm – 7.00pm. Our Online Interview System will once again operate. This information will be made available to you in the next two weeks. Those parents who have children in Mrs Ford’s Year 1F, Miss Boyle’s Year 1B or Mr Tobin’s Year 3T will have their interviews during the second week of Term 2 as they will be away on leave at the end of the Term. SCHOOL EDUCATION BOARD The School Education Board will meet for the second time this Term on Tuesday 25th March commencing at 6.30pm. VICTORIAN CHILD ORAL HEALTH SURVEY (VCHOS) The Victorian Child Oral Health Survey (VCOHS) is coming to GALILEE PRIMARY SCHOOL For those families that have been selected to participate in the Survey, a reminder to return your consent form and questionnaire by 14TH March 2014. Your participation will help contribute to the collection of important and useful oral health data used to improve dental services across Victoria. For more information about the Victorian Child Oral Health Survey contact a member of the VCOHS research team on (03) 9341 1785 or email [email protected]. STUDENT WELLBEING NEWS Cyber Safety Parent Seminar Where: Galilee Regional Primary School Hall When: Wednesday, 19th March Time: 7 – 9pm Presenters: Georgina Manning & Luke Sheehan Cost: $5 per family R.S.V.P: Friday, 14th March ‘WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE’ ‘CRAZY HAIR DAY’ On FRIDAY 21ST MARCH our school will support the LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION by taking part in the ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ fundraiser. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DAY ( from Friday, 7th March) This foundation raises funds to support patients and their families who have leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a blood related disorder. The fundraising will help provide these patients with a regional free home-away-from-home near the hospital during their treatment. It also helps with transport to appointments and as much practical and emotional support as possible free of charge. The money also goes towards research into better treatments and cures. We will not be shaving heads, but suggest the children do something CRAZY with their hair prior to coming to school eg: spray with colour spray, braid, add clips, ribbons, crimp or wear a wig. We will ask each child to bring a gold coin donation on the day, to enter the fun and we will have a parade at morning assembly 8.45am. This will not be a competition, just a fun way to support the LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION. Thanking you in anticipation of your support and any queries please come and see me or give me a call.
