Gambia inaugurates $5m water project The Gambia government has inaugurated a water project financed at the tune of $5 million in Gunjur located in the West Coast region of the country.The Vice President and Minister of Women’s Affairs Isatou Njie-Saidy was on Tuesday quoted by the local media as saying the funding for the project was provided by the Islamic Development Bank. The project comprises 16 km of water distribution network and is supported with boreholes and 3,000 meters of raw water transmission pipelines. It has a capacity to produce and treat 100, 000 litres per hour, a 25, 000 litres ground water tank and a half million litre high level water tank. Dr Njie-Saidy said the new water project will go towards providing clean pipe borne water and sanitation infrastructure for the people of Gunjur and its surroundings. For the Energy Minister, Dr Edward Saja Sanneh, the new project represents an integral part of the government’s resolve to address the water problems of the people of Gunjur through the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). NAWEC’s managing director, Ebrima Sanyang said the government will spare no efforts in making sure that all Gambians have access to safe and reliable water supply
