Gambias autocratic and despotic dictator Yahya Jammeh is about to - TopicsExpress

Gambias autocratic and despotic dictator Yahya Jammeh is about to seal off a three million dalasi media deal by buying the privately owned Standard Newspaper, whose compromised Editor and proprietor Sheriff Bojang, was few weeks ago appointed Information Minister by the deranged Kanilai jester, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The dictator has recruited some front men to help him oversee his new Standard Newspaper media project. The recent appointment of Lamin Fatty as MD, a former official of the Catholic Relief Services, is an affirmation or confirmation about what we are reporting this morning. Jammeh is masquerading under the disguise of wanting to bailout the highly indebted Editor Sheriff Bojang. Mr. Bojang is reported to be owing over 300,000 thousand dalasi in debt and has been struggling to sustain his newspaper on the face of a declining newspaper sales record in The Gambia. His paper is no longer viable and Mr. Bojang is heavily indebted. The Gambian dictator is not only going to bail him out from his creditors, Mr. Jammeh would also ensure that he transforms the Standard as an extension of the State House. The paper is going to join the Daily Observer to sing the dictators praises. Stories concerning human rights, good governance, and corruption will have no space in Jammehs paper. Just last week, Yahya Jammeh has confided to his newly appointed Information Minister Sheriff Bojang, as to how he intends to effect the in-house cleansing at the Standard. For a kick start, Jammeh told Sheriff that he wants the Gunjur boy with the last name (Darboe) while referring to Editor Sainey Darboe to be fired. He intends to replace Mr. Darboe with one Aboubacarr Darboe, a GRTS UK educated staffer. Mr. Darboe bagged Masters Degree in Human Resources from the UK. Jammeh sponsored his studies in the UK. Among the Standard reporters to be fired in coming weeks include Journalist Saikou Jammeh. The dictator has singled out Mr. Saikou Jammeh, a respected Standard prolific feature writer and Staff reporter. Jammeh wants to get rid of the papers principled journalists. Under the new sale deal, Sheriff Bojang is going to help Jammeh to oversee the transition process. Bojang has not been getting along with his Editor Sainey Darboe since his appointment as Information, sources said. He has tried to dictate to the papers Editors to be publishing positive stories about the dictator and his dying regime. But his requests for propaganda stories in favor of his new boss Jammeh, have been meted out with strong resistance by his Editors. The source we spoke with said Mr. Sainey Darboe would be very lucky if he keeps his job by next week. The source said both Sainey and Saikou Jammeh risked being fired within a week or so. According to one trusted source within the Standard Editorial team, Sheriff Bojang was recently used by dictator Jammeh to fire questions on behalf of Jammeh to the newly appointed United States Charge DAffaires to The Gambia during a press conference organized by Mr. Staples. Yahya Jammeh personally dictated the questions to Mr. Bojang to confront Diplomat George Staples on the issue of gay rights, Israel, Hamas, just to name a few. The Standard insider said Jammehs primary objective was to know how the US government perceives him and also to embarrass the diplomat. The insider noted that the dictator is determined to use and abuse Mr. Bojang before dumping him. Sheriff Bojang is a mercenary journalist. He has mortgaged his credibility and integrity for the sole purpose of appeasing a small dictator. Jammeh dictated to him some of the questions he should ask the new American envoy, said the insider. Mr. Sheriff Bojang could not be reached for comment. freedomnewspaper/Homepage/tabid/36/newsid367/10609/GAMBIAN-DICTATOR-YAHYA-JAMMEH-BUYS-STANDARD-NEWSPAPER/Default.aspx
