Game 8, Winners 5-2 Toyonaka Combined Team IV This was the last game of the tour, its played at Rose Stadium Toyonaka and is the game the boys love playing a the most due to grandstands and major league dugouts. Their excitement and enthusiasm was on display from the first at bat with Ted blasting a triple to deep left to lead off the game. Burto batting second made good connection but the pitcher trapped the ball and put him out at first. This was as RBI though as Ted scored on the play. Bill who has been the most effective and consistent batter added another single to his long list of hits. Chucky followed at blasted a single to Centre field whilst Waterboy and Turbo took walks to get on base. This brought about a pitching change, something we hadnt seen a lot of. With the new pitcher on and the Toyonaka team scrathing their heads wondering where this freight train in the Sydney shirts had come from, Ozzy delivered with the bat scoring two runners and in the process getting a single between 2nd and shortstop. M&M was unlucky not to get on base, with a good piece of fielding from the catcher robbing him of a hit. So after the top of the 1st innings we had 4 runs on the board and a team enthused by what they had just done and witnessed. The bounded out of the dugout with enthusiasm unlike anything the coaches and manager had seen all toThis included those who werent on the field going out to back up the bases and / or organizing the euipment in dthe dugout. Ted and Turbo then played catch resulting in 3 up 3 down and a 4-0 lead after the 1st innings. Next up to bat was Flipper and Sleepy who battled hard but were struck out. Eveready showed patience and pitch selection and took the walk. Dude unfortunately was called out on strike three and shut the innings down. The last innings saw one further run scored with Chucky getting on bases thanks to another nice double. Smart base running advance him to third and was able to come home after Turbo had a dropped third strike on him but had the presence of mind to run allowing Chucky to score on the throw. Two of the Toyonaka team managed to get on base through walks and are very good at stealing bases, including home on pass balls and bunts. Coming into the bottom of the last innings due time the boys knew it was now or never and the Ted and Turbo show tool over with three outs at the plate securing us a MEMORBALE victory. This was our last game and with the closing ceremony complete the boys went home to enjoy their last night with their billets. The coaches and manager took the opportunity to debrief and prepare for the journey home. On behalf of the coaches we would like to congratulate and thank the boys for their behavior and efforts over the past week. Involved in the play was M&M (2nd), Bill (SS), Sleepy (3rd), Ted (Pitcher) and Turb (Catcher). 2 Pick off plays at 1st, involved in the plays Ted (Pitcher) and Chucky (1st) M&M made a great play at second getting the out at 1st.
