Gardening does not necessarily need to be really structured. One patch my partner calls the weed patch produces prolific amounts of salad greens which I can just pick choosing the succulent leaves mixing and matching flavours as I feel like it. Lettuce, asian greens and mustards are favourites. Prepare your soil and moisten before you broadcast your seeds of asian and lettuce greens, lightly, lightly raking them into the soil. Plants that do well in salads and stir fries that tolerate cutting and continue to grow besides those above are broccoli (let your plant grow harvesting the main head - smaller branches will continue to sprout for months and are perfect for stir fries). Parsley (Italian) grows well and shoots easily from dropped seeds. Silverbeet are good allowing them to grow. The bigger plants sprout small, edible leaves for months and months and are a perfect size to include in a mixed salad. One tip Ive learned - time is a little short here - let the greens go to seed, and just wait for your new crop. Just weed and/or transplant. Buying seeds could be a thing of the past.
