Garry Nkombo Tells Kaingu to Join “Winning Team” PF UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Mazabuka member of Parliament Garry Nkombo says MMD vice-president Michael Kaingu should join the Patriotic Front (PF) because it is clear that he supports the ruling party. Nkombo said Dr Kaingu should resign from the MMD and join the PF, which he contends to be the “winning team”. “Dr Kaingu should join the PF because he feels that it is a winning team. What is he doing in the opposition?” he asked. Nkombo was reacting to Dr Kaingu’s statement that the PF will scoop the 2016 elections by a wide margin in most parts of the country. Nkombo said that it is clear that the MMD will not get back to power because of the several problems the former ruling party is going through. He said the people of Zambia will be able to tell who will win the 2016 elections. Nkombo said Dr Kaingu is entitled to his opinion and as such his word will be tested in 2016. He said Dr Kaingu should resign as a MP in the opposition. And MMD national vice-chairperson Edgar Keembe says it is strange that Dr Kaingu can claim that the PF will win the 2016 elections when he is supposed to be mobilising his party. Keembe said in an interview yesterday that Dr Kaingu and his counterpart Dr Brian Chituwo are supposed to be deputising MMD president Nevers Mumba. “It is strange that Mr Kaingu can praise another party when he is supposed to be rebuilding his own party and soliciting for other members to join our party,” he said. Keembe said calls for a party convention are misplaced as the party has a constitution that has given Dr Mumba a five-year term. “It is not about Dr Mumba; he is just the face of the party. If you despise the president, it is the party that gets damaged. Our job, together with UPND, NAREP and other opposition parties in the country is to offer checks and balances,” he said. Keembe said the party is currently on a reconciliation programme and urged Dr Kaingu and Dr Chituwo to participate. He has called for a ceasefire. But Dr Kaingu has insisted that his analysis of the PF winning is based on facts. He said that he is just being realistic when he says that President Sata will win the 2016 elections. “If the opposition does not find a better candidate, then President Sata stands a better chance to win the elections.” He said that it is wishful thinking that the opposition can win the elections in 2016 because it is not strong enough.
