Gatas, producing our documentary in 2012 Cape Verde - and Boavista - are improving their positioning as a tourist destination; by 2015 1 million tourists will visit Cape Verde annually. The development of tourism on Boavista raises questions about sustainability and the effects on the islands unique (underwater)nature. Time to document Boavistas present situation! Albert Salman - Director Sustainable Development at Coastal & Marine Union EUCC - comments: What an excellent impression of the transition of Boavista into the era of tourism. Congratulations for the makers Edoardo e Frederico, for showing the beauty of underwater life and landscape, and the authenticity of local people. At the same time you can feel the beginning tension caused by tourists who want to dive, surf and ride quads, but apparently prefer fish from elsewhere, while the locals cant sell their local fish... But I was happy to see promising local initiatives (voluntary no-take zone, turtle protection and true love for marine wildlife). Food for thought is why the fishing rights have been sold for only 450.000 euros... Great piece of work to make you think about tourism sustainability! boavista.cc/ https://vimeo/ondemand/boavista
