Gauging potential audience interest: Say I were to come up with an put together a video series on YouTube exploring the horror movie genre from different angles--psychological, technical, historical, feminist. It would be in an easy-to-absorb format, say 10-15 minutes an episode. Content would be a combination of movie clips, illustrations/pictures and diagrams, with my narration overtop. Who would be interested? And just as importantly, would anyone consider helping me fund this? Some sample ideas: -Suspense: defining suspense, examining why its psychologically effective, illustrating it with classic examples (Psycho, Halloween), and demonstrating ways it can be craftily subverted (as in Lovely Molly); basis would be the following essay at ashtreelane.blogspot.ca/2014/01/subverting-suspense-with-lovely-molly.html -Subtle horror: analysing how directors and other creators can seed their films and works with unnerving little details that aid in establishing a horrific atmosphere, such as in The Exorcist or Prince of Darkness; based on this piece here ashtreelane.blogspot.ca/2014/07/the-devil-in-details-exorcist-and.html -When horror isnt scary: comparing and contrasting two movies, one of whom is more frightening than the other, and analysing whether the effect or lack thereof is due to personal taste or decisions made on the part of the director; I might compare The Exorcist and Poltergiest, or Black Christmas and Halloween -Women and horror: examining female representation in the genre, especially during the slasher era, and the steps writers and filmmakers could take to improve the very obvious problems here; would draw on movies like Alien, Black Christmas, Halloween, Lovely Molly, The House of the Devil Anyone who is interested and/or has something to add or suggest, send me a line either in the comments or through private message. Thanks!
