Gday Members, here is a quick update of what is happening within the club.... Australian Postie Bike Grand Prix Entries for the GP are now open to the public and all race information is available on the clubs web site. For our club members we are reserving 20 team positions but as the entries for this event will be filling fast you better secure your place in the GP as soon as possible. There has been a massive amount of interest shown on the Postie GP Facebook Page with teams coming from as far as Queensland and Victoria to participate in what can only be described as an event brimming with Aussie character. There are some major names from Moto GP and Speedway who have world titles under their belt and they have expressed their interest in racing in the GP. Add to the bill the local talents of Chris Watson who has amassed an amazing 114 state and Australian titles and local hero and major sponsor for the event Phil Lovett who has three Finke Desert Race trophies in the pool room and plenty of experience on the tarmac This event is not just a few Postie bike enthusiasts racing around the street of Cessnocks CBD. It is a major event for the city of Cessnock, and the benefits and crowds that it brings to Cessnock, its people and businesses, will rival that of any music festivals in the vineyards and the flood of people that arrived in the city for the 1992 International Six Day Enduro that was organised by the late John Hall and hosted by Cessnock MCC. Besides 81 teams (2 riders and 2 pit people) vying for the inaugural Postie GP trophy and the $1000 for the winners of the GP, you can expect the following at the event; •Free admission to the GP and the opportunity to be part of history as the Australian Postie Bike Grand Prix will be run for the first time. •Bimbadgen By The Bikes- Bimbadgen Estate Wines will have a huge marque set track side where Bimbadgen ticket holders and major event sponsors will be wined and dined while watching the Grand Prix competitors pass by at ballistic postie bike velocity. •International Food Fair will be serving up cuisines from around the world. •ABC kids carnival jumping castles and rides for the kids. •Saturday night at Pedens Hotel in Cessnock there will be a welcoming party with the area beside the pub cordoned off with a huge inflatable screen for showing bike movies and also a few bands entertaining the cities visitors for the weekend. •Local modelling studios will be organising grid girls •NSW Police Force stall to engage with the community about motorcycling in the Cessnock area. •Funky Junk will be running Flea Markets. •Cessnock local radio and international Moto GP commentator Mark Bracks will be commentating the event. •Mr Chequers will be on flag waving duties. •NSW Super Moto Club will be holding a Postie practice day at the Port Macquarie motard track. •Street parade that will incorporate all the Grand Prix postie bikes and their teams who will be lead along by the Cessnock RSL Pipe an Drum band The preparations for the Grand Prix are quite simply huge but achievable with over 11 semi loads of water barriers and other track barricading required for the event not to mention the track building, marshalling, scrutineering and event management that is required to make this event a success. Our club along with Hunter Today and local businesses are meeting every Monday night at the Cumberland Hotel in Cessnock at 6pm to discuss planning and job coordination of the GP, so if you are interested in helping with the event or are just interested with what is happening you are welcome to come along and participate. Australian Four Day Enduro Track preparation for the special tests that our club will be running are all but complete thanks to a great effort put in by Rod Allaway and his team. Rod will be coordinating the helpers that are required to successfully run the two tests during the event so if you are interested in giving the club a hand please contact Rod on 0400 097 004 or rodallaway@gmail Even if you have no experience with bikes and enduro races you can still help the club and we will put you with someone who knows the ropes.
