Gearing up for a NON PRODUCTIVE DAY Catchy? hahahah... First: I want to thank all past and former members of the US Armed Services for their service. THANK YOU. We all know without you, wed still be paying heavy taxes to the British government :) When I joined the military, more years ago than I really want to remember (right Rudy), the last thing on my mind was being recognized for my service to the USA. I think this is true with most of us veterans. And Im sure that those that really know me how impacted I was by the rejection of those that I served all because of the stupid Vietnam crisis. This rejection had such an impact, that I cringed any time the topic came up and regrettably, my children know little about my military days. Yet, a year or so, I started to become a little more proud of being a veteran. I heard in church yesterday that there are many places honoring veterans today. So, my first response (yesterday) was I didnt serve to be honored. I served to honor my country, my dad and grandfather, both military veterans and unfortunately not with me today. This morning, I remembered this and with an acceptance that if companies want to honor veterans, I should let them. SO...I made my list today. Coffee at Starbucks (both Barb and I get coffee), breakfast at Bob Heavens (as Madelyn used to call it ... all you can eat pancakes), donut at Tim Hortons, lunch at Applebees, pick up Barb at work and dinner at Red Robin. With all that eating, I doubt Ill be in some form of comatose state. Will I actually do all of these? I dont know, but it does feel good to feel appreciated and in a way, Im honoring the stores by showing up. Am I twisted?
