Geelani condemns harassment of Palhallan inhabitants Srinagar, May 31: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Friday condemned harassment of inhabitants of Palhallan Pattan in north Kashmir by forces and police. In a statement a Geelani said: “People of Palhallan are being subjected to political vengeance. The whole area is under the control of Army camp at Hyderbaigh and Task Force has also been given free hands to suppress locals. The civil administration is aware about the atrocities inflicted on the locals but is acting as mute spectators,” Geelani said. “Palhallan has been converted into a virtual jail where fundamental rights of people have been snatched. IB, CID and SB sleuths round the clock monitor the activities of locals. The personnel deployed in Hyderbaigh Army camp have obtained mobile numbers of all the youth and summon them frequently the camp and subjected them to harassment and torture,” Geelani said. “People of Kashmir are proud of resilience and courage of Palhalan inhabitants. They should not be dejected by these cheap pressure tactics aimed to break their resolve. They must face all challenges courageously,” Geelani said. The spokesman said Geelani had decided to make an on-the-spot assessment of situation in Palhalan. “However Geelani Sahib could not visit Palhallan as he has been placed under continuous house arrest,” he said.
