Geingob rejects ‘omkwankala’ branding SWAPO Party - TopicsExpress

Geingob rejects ‘omkwankala’ branding SWAPO Party vice-president, Prime Minister Hage Geingob has admitted that there are still tribalistic members in the ruling party who are calling him an “omkwankala” after he won the party’s second highest position in December last year. Geingob said some of his comrades within the party started making remarks such as “we cannot support a omkwankala” last year at the party’s elective congress. Omkwankala is considered a derogatory word used by some people to refer to Nama, Damara and San tribes which literally means someone with nothing, finishes things up quickly or does not think about the next day. “I’m not a kwankala,” Geingob said on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation’s Prime Minister’s Question Time last week. Independent Namibia’s first prime minister believes that some party leaders are still uttering the derogatory word adding: “I don’t have anything to do with tribalism whatever side it comes from.”
