Gemma Arterton to star in Globe’s Duchess of Malfi Gemma Arterton is to return to Shakespeare’s Globe in The Duchess of Malfi next year. She will play the title role in the show, which will be the first production in the London venue’s new 340-seat indoor theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Arterton made her professional stage debut at the venue as Rosaline in a production of Love’s Labour’s Lost in 2007. The Duchess of Malfi will run from January 9 to February 16, 2014. It is directed by the Globe’s artistic director Dominic Dromgoole. Arterton said: “To play the Duchess of Malfi in a magical new theatre seemed an irresistible opportunity for me. I am thrilled to be coming back to Shakespeare’s Globe where I made my stage debut and I really look forward to the adventure of performing in such an intimate and wonderful space.”
