Generation Waking Up | Position Description GenUp Fellows POSTED: July 2013 Application: generationwakingup.org/apply Generation Waking Up is seeking highly creative, smart, and motivated youth & students to join our team as GenUp Fellows. Being a GenUp Fellow is a significant learning opportunity to work closely with our team to help realize our mission of a thriving, just and sustainable world. Because the Fellow is central to our summer staffing and the success of our GenUp Summer Leadership Training, we ask that they commit to at least two months as a full-time team member. We are dedicated to support you in training and development of leadership and personal growth. Type of Position: GenUp Fellow (32-40 hours per week, with a commitment of 2 or more months) Location: 4+ days a week in our office. We currently work in the office of the Pachamama Alliance in the Presidio, San Francisco (Map:bit.ly/ggS6F6). In October 2013, we will be moving to a new office space of HUB Oakland which will be located in the heart of Uptown Oakland on Broadway between 23rd and 24th Streets. Start Date: Ongoing Duration: 2 months or more, with some flexibility. Compensation: Volunteer Generation Waking Up is a global campaign to ignite a generation of young people to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world. We are working to empower an entire generation of young people across the globe that is waking up, standing up, and taking action with allies of every generation, helping to bring forth a thriving, just, and sustainable way of life for all. Our campaign operates through three interwoven programs – WakeUp, Thrive, and Synergize. Your purpose will be to work closely with GenUp staff to increase our overall organizational efficiency and impact. The Summer Fellow will contribute to the team in the following areas: GenUp Leadership Training Support: You will attend and help organize a GenUp leadership training with operations, logistics, and outreach. WakeUp Program Support: You will help grow the capacity and reach of the WakeUp Program around the world. This will include answering inquiries about our WakeUp program offerings, supporting the WakeUp Facilitator community in delivering WakeUps, organizing logistics for WakeUp events, and more. Thrive Program Support: You will support the growth and capacity of the Thrive Program. This will include supporting existing & emerging Thrive Hubs in event logistics, outreach, promotion, and helping coordinate Thrive Hub Community of Practice events. Communications & Social Media: You will support in communicating with the global GenUp community and growing GenUp’s social media presence and outreach. This will include writing copy for email, GenUp’s blog and website. You will also be creating content for our Facebook and Twitter accounts and growing our social media community’s engagement and impact. Event Production: You will support in producing special events, including GenUp houseparty fundraisers, trainings and other special events. This will include coordinating event logistics, event tracking and follow up, event communications, and organizing and obtaining materials for events. Partnerships: You will liaise with current and potential organizational partners by creating special communications for existing partners, updating our partners information on our website, enrolling potential partners, and supporting our partners in accessing our open source programs and content. Administrative Support & Database Management: You will support in administrative tasks such as mailing packages, updating our databases, organizing event data, and other tasks to maintain an easy office flow. Grant Research & Writing: You will research potential grants (including potential trips to San Francisco’s Foundation Center office) and support the creation of a grants schedule and calendar. You will also support in creating, tailoring, and editing content for grants. This is the “peak” experience of the fellowship in understanding our work and our mission, as well as an opportunity for the fellow development of leadership skills for personal and social transformation. Although we are unable to provide monetary compensation for the Fellowship, we are able to support in helping you develop a fundraising plan for your stipend. You have a personal laptop you will be able to use on the job You are highly motivated and work well independently and as part of a team. You have excellent communication and people skills. You are skilled with MS Office, GoogleDocs, and database management. You are detail-oriented, highly organized and focused in your tasks. You are punctual and deadline-oriented in producing deliverables. You are able to work with a diverse group of individuals of all ages and cultures in a positive and professional manner.
