Genes bring music to your ears. According to a new study, multiple regions in the genome are reportedly linked to musical aptitude according to a study, published in Molecular Psychiatry. The functions of the genes identified in the studies range from inner-ear development to auditory neurocognitive processes. This suggests that one’s musical aptitude is affected by a combination of genes. Perception of music starts in in the inner ear with the movement of specialized hair cells. These hair cells transmit sounds as electronic signals through the auditory pathway to the auditory cortex. This is where sounds are primarily recognized. The processing of music has been shown to affect other regions of the brain as well, such as emotion, memory and learning. Read more here: goo.gl/vqASrc Image source: Wikimedia commons
