Genesee County Crime Watch: Child ID Program The Genesee County Crime Watch wants to prepare parents for the unimaginable. Members of the local crime watch groups and Genesee County Crime Watch will be in Flint, May 20th to fingerprint children, swab for DNA and, supply good information packets free of charge. Roscoe Clark, Genesee County Crime Watch coordinator for this event, said the swabs and DNA collection will help parents if their child goes missing. Police use the materials to identify children when theyve been found. Sometimes a child wont talk or is too young to understand whats going on, he said. Thats when we would use something like this. Clark said parents will take the DNA swabs and fingerprints home with them that afternoon. He said the card with the childs fingerprint on it will also contain basic information such as the childs eye and hair color, height and weight. In case of an emergency, parents can use the card to easily answer questions from police. These are things that any parent would know the answer to, Clark said. But when youre in a stressful situation, it can be hard to answer those simple questions. Children can also learn how to dust for their fingerprints at the booth to be part of the Child Project, CSI and Safety can be fun Clark said. Genesee County Crime Watch, he said, does not keep any of the materials. Other crime watch locations are planed this summer. Flint News.
