Genesis 28:10–32:3 Vayeitzei Went out - Jacob went out from Beer - TopicsExpress

Genesis 28:10–32:3 Vayeitzei Went out - Jacob went out from Beer Sheva and went to Charan. Our sages tell us that in the Torah every word is significant. So they ask the question, why not simply say that Jacob went to Charan. The sages answer their own question saying that when a great personality such as Jacob goes out, leaves a place he leaves a vacuum behind. He will be missed in Beer Sheva. He ran away from Beer Sheva because his twin Esau threatened to kill him. So despite the fact that he received the blessing from his father Isaac, he went with nothing but his walking stick. As the sunset, he arrived at a place, took some of the rocks of the place to use as a pillow. (The rocks are huge boulders, and are today used by the local Arabs to throw at us!) He saw a ladder, with Angels going up and down. Angels have specific jobs, and so the angel guardian of Jacob in Israel left and the angel to accompany him to Haran came down. Jacob learned that God was not merely a local family deity, but was everywhere and anywhere. There is so much more to learn in this weeks parsha, so read your Bible and see what befalls Jacob at the home of his Uncle Laban. Have a beautiful, meaningful and peaceful Shabbat Shalomשבת שלום
