Genesis 3:15 - “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; IT shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise HIS heel.” There are many who wrongly criticize the King James Bible here for having the seed referred to as both IT and HIS. The truth of the matter is that the King James Bible is God’s perfect and infallible words and there are precious truths to be seen in it that you will miss if you are using an inferior bible version. It turns out that the King James Bible is not only NOT in error, but is far more accurate when we consider the whole counsel of God. “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; IT shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise HIS heel.” God issued this pronouncement of doom upon the serpent and his seed. The seed of Satan includes all his spiritual children. There are only two spiritual families on this earth - the children of God and the children of the devil. “Ye are of your father the devil” John 8:44 “The field is the world; THE GOOD SEED are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one. The enemy that SOWED them is the devil...” Matthew 13:38-39. “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” I John 3:10 The “seed” spoken of here is BOTH Christ, the Son of God, AND the promised seed who are God’s people. “Neither, because they are the SEED of Abraham, are they all children: but, in Isaac shall THY SEED be called. That is, they which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for THE SEED.” Romans 9:7-8 And we see from the book of Galatians that both Christ and the children of promise to Abraham are called THE SEED. “Now to Abraham and his SEED were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” Galatians 3:16 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s SEED, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29 We see a similar and related truth expressed in Revelation chapter 12 where the apostle John sees a vision of a woman in heaven, and “she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations” - Rev. 12:5 And this woman, who is generally thought to be the wife of Jehovah, spiritual Israel and “Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all” (Galatians 4:26) also has a “seed” “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of HER SEED, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” So when we read the words God spoke to Satan in Genesis 3:15 - “And I will put enemity between thee and the woman, and between THY SEED and HER SEED; IT shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise HIS heel.” - the words refer to BOTH Christ AND the promised SEED of God’s believing people who would eventually “bruise the head” of Satan. Christ alone defeated Satan at the cross of Calvary - See Colossians 2:15, Hebrews 2:14-15 and 1 John 3:8 - but God’s people, as the promised SEED, will also take part in bruising the head of Satan when he is finally and forever defeated when he is cast out into the lake of fire for ever. As we read in Romans 16:20 “And the God of peace SHALL BRUISE SATAN UNDER YOUR FEET shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” Therefore to change the translation of “IT” to “He” (as many modern versions like the NKJV, NIV, NASB, ESV do) is to miss the whole truth of Scripture. There are also some other weird versions out there too. For example: The Common English Bible of 2011 says: “THEY will strike your head, but you will strike at THEIR heels.” The Catholic versions present us with their usual confusion. The older Douay-Rheims of 1582 and the Douay Version of 1950 actually say: “I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: SHE shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for HER heel.” Then it footnotes: “SHE shall crush”. So divers of the fathers read this place, conformably to the Latin.” Then the St. Joseph New American bible of 1970 has: “HE will strike at your head, while you strike at HIS heel.” But then the 1985 New Jerusalem now says: “IT will bruise your head and you will strike ITS heel.” But then the 2009 Catholic Public Domain Version goes back to “she” reading: “I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. SHE will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for HER heel.” The King James Bible is not the only translation to correctly have both “IT” and “HIS” when referring to the seed. The Bishops’ Bible of 1568 reads: “I wyll also put enmitie betweene thee & the woman, betweene thy seede and her seede: and IT shall treade downe thy head, and thou shalt treade vpon HIS heele”. So too does the Revised Version of 1881 - “IT shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise HIS heel.“, and Webster’s translation of 1833, the KJV 21st Century Version 1994, the Third Millenium Bible of 1998 and the Orthodox Jewish Bible of 2011 - “And I will put eivah (enmity) between thee and HaIsha , and between thy zera and her Zera; IT shall crush thy rosh, and thou shalt strike HIS akev (heel).” The King James Bible is always right. It is God’s true “Book of the LORD” - Isaiah 34:16 - “Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail...” All of grace, believing the Book, Will Kinney Return to Articles - brandplucked.webs/kjbarticles.htm
