Genocide by starvation, lack of heating and lighting, but the most - TopicsExpress

Genocide by starvation, lack of heating and lighting, but the most hideous crime was suppressing the soul of the Nation. I was in Rumania in 1980, and it was like in India nowadays to some extent, lots of sops to the urban middle class which in turn pressed down on the poor, total devastation of the rural areas, wholesale export of mineral wealth, huge expenditure on casinos and hotels to attract foreign tourists, terrible state of public utilities or services, most everything was done for cash or barter, and a very strong underground movement-but the hold of The Family was total and all pervasive. Till one day, the Armed Forces turned, just like that. And without much violence during the revolution, the system changed, just like that. But while the Caucescus were alive, their power and the power of those who rode with them, was absolute. And the biggest symbol of all was the Palace that they lived in. It reminded me so much of the Viceroys Palace in India. youtube/watch?v=XsRQP7TifME
