Gentlemen - Boom! The Regimental Golf Society locked horns today against 29 Commando RA at TGGC (I am a member now if you didnt know lol) in the quarter finals of the Holloway cup. The Team after a selection process on Tuesday and availability of regular players consisted of: Capt Fielden WO2 Matthias Sgt McCarter Sgt Scott Lbdr Docherty The game was really tense as both teams were playing for a slot in the Semi/Finals in September. 29RA came with a loaded team that all looked the part. 3 x 16hcp and 2 x 18hcp. This could be seen in two ways, 29RA struggling to get a team together, or they were bandits. The first flight set off at 11:48 seeing WO2 Matthias drive straight on to the fairway, whilst seeing his opponent head into the rough, confidence was high. Stroke for stroke the match was all over by the 14 green, WO2 Matthias playing well and to his Hcp, was just out gunned and outplayed but this 16hcp. After the 18 hole was completed the 29RA played very well and played to a 11hcp, enough said. However the crowds were fantastic, big thankyou to Bdr Cree who came down to support the team and more importantly, bought the first round at the 19th. However up beat, and with the luck of the gods, 20 mins later saw the arrival of the Capt Fielden and Sgt Mccarter pairing coming down the 18th. In the glare of the sun,or the redness glow of Sgt McCarter face, the smiles shone through. Both players won their matches, massive congratulations to Sgt McCarter scoring a 9 over scratch score and the previous day an 11 over scratch. Clearly those cards will not be entered before the 30 September seeing as he has been accidentally locked out of todays golfer. So 2-1 to 47RA and with the gods still smiling down on us, we just had to wait for the remainder of the team, Sgt Scott first time playing in match play event and took a cut from 22 to 18hcp to do so and Lbdr Poulter Docherty. As the team approached the 18th, news got to us that sadly Sgt Scott lost his match against a 16hcp on the 16th 3&2. So yet again all down to Mr Poulter Docherty the match was A/S coming down the 18th and tension looming with another playoff imminent. Lbdr Docherty finished 1up after a stunning chip onto the pin landing 2 foot short from going in. The pressure and stakes all going back onto 29, failing to convert their chance,Doc sank the putt to the great delight and shock from both teams. Great game had by all, smiles all round. Amaze balls! Were through to the Semi/Finals at TGGC on the 30 Sept 2014.
