Gentlemen, Unfortunately, I must share my disappointment with your behavior at the Watha race this past weekend. The residents of Watha and Pender County have been extremely cordial to cyclists in the past and have always welcomed us into their community but a lack of discretion and good judgment on your part has put that at risk. Apparently several of you decided to relieve yourselves in the front yards or woods across from the local residents, behavior which is completely unacceptable! The UNCW club went to a lot of effort to ensure a safe and fun race, tried to minimize the impact on the local community and you guys (I am assuming it was the guys) negated all their work. How would you feel if a guest at your home, apartment, or dorm didn’t feel the need to use the restroom and just used a corner of your porch. Would you do this in front of your mom? Why is it okay to do it in front of someone else then? If you hope to have races in the future I would suggest you consider your actions and their consequences more carefully. To those of you who attended the race and conducted yourselves appropriately, thank you for attending and please try to explain why the previously mentioned behavior is unacceptable to your fellow racers. As cyclists we are asking drivers for respect and courtesy towards us, at the very least we should show the same respect and courtesy to other road users and residents. Please be safe at the future races and don’t forget that you represent the cycling community. Adam Jones
