George Shuba died Monday in Youngstown, Ohio. He played in three World Series for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950’s, but is best known for the iconic photo of his handshake with Jackie Robinson that became an inspiring symbol of racial tolerance in America. Shuba would later carry the photo with him when he visited Ohio schools to speak about racial tolerance and standing up to do the right thing. He often told his son: “Look up at that photo. I want you to remember what that stands for. You treat all people equally.”
