George T. Boatman & family c. 1910. One of the earliest pioneer families of Montana; George was a Miller from Missouri, who was conscripted into the Confederate Army to mill flour for General Prices Army of the Southwest. After the war he came home to find his own mill burned by bushwackers; so in 1866 he took his wife and two children, at that time, by covered wagon up the Bozeman trail to Virginia City, Montana. He later ran the Silver Spring Mill in Sheridan, Montana. His great-great-great-great-great grandfather was George Washingtons great grandfather William Ball (b. 1615) who owned Millenbeck Plantation in Northumberland County, Virgina. His grandfather Peter Cockrell (b. 1758) fought in the Revolutionary War in the 3rd and 5th Virginia Regiments. Peter Cockrells great grandfather William Presley fought alongside William Ball in Bacons Rebellion, Both William Ball and William Presley were members of the House of Burgesses in the early Virgina Colony.
