Georgia “Marie” Helterbrand Stephens Martin, 98, of McAlester, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at a local nursing home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Randy Tidmore officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Marie was born February 8, 1916 in Scipio, Oklahoma to George R. & Leona P. Treece Helterbrand. She attended her early years of school in Purcell. Marie moved back to McAlester in 1958. She worked in the school cafeteria in Maysville, and she was a nurse’s aide at McAlester General Hospital. Marie also worked at the McAlester Army Ammunitions Depot. Marie was also a Home Demonstration Hostess for Amway, Stanley & Avon. She was a member of the C & Tyler Church of Christ and she was a housewife in later years & loved to garden and quilt. She was a member of the Red Hats Society. Survivors include her son: Phillip Stephens of McAlester; grandchildren & spouses: Sondra & Bert Dungan, Crista & Mikey Gregory, Gayla Howard, Carrie Grimes, Kenneth & Kimberly; brother & sister-in-law: Carl & Opal Helterbrand of McAlester; sister: Gloria Whrenberg of Tulsa; and sister-in-law: Ada Helterbrand of Garland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Ira Stephens and Jessie (Pat) Martin, sons: Ray Stephens and Dewey Stephens, grandson: James Stephens, brothers: Alden Helterbrand & David Helterbrand, & sisters: Naomi Brown and Patsy Boudreau. Pallbearers will be Brandon Ernsberger, David Ernsberger, Brett Dungan, Michael Verner, David Verner, and Bill Verner.
