Georgian shoddiness The lack of quality in the workmanship of Georgian properties is explored. Roland White comments that Georgian builders made todays tradesmen look like Michelangelo by slapping houses together with cheap bricks and timber. The houses were meant to fall apart after 80 years, and they often did, adds John Yates, a historic buildings inspector for English Heritage. The survivors are shoddy. They often have lovely finishes, but not a lot of money was spent on the buildings themselves. They used badly formed bricks for everything except the front walls. If you ever see the party wall of a Georgian house, the brickwork is shocking.
