Get To Know The Chief World Explorer Top 5 - Tyson Mayr bestjobaroundtheworld/submissions/view/10187 1) If you had to put down roots in one place and call it home for the rest of your life, where would it be and why would you choose that location? (Credit to Cassidy for the question) Tough question Cassidy! But how can I not say Australia :) As much as I am loving the US right now & all of its less known gems, travelling the world has made me appreciate just how nice I have it back home! If you were to ask the next place I will unpack my bags to live - Brazil without a doubt! Amazing beaches, beautiful nature, rich & diverse culture and an energy like no other place in the world! Unpacking my bags on a beach I can surf & play beach soccer every day while learning Portugese, Capoeira & Samba is definitely a bucket list item for me! 2) Describe an experience in your life that defined or solidified your passion for travel and voluntourism. (Credit to Heidi for the question) Heidi there have honestly been so many moments its hard to choose one! My first time volunteering deep in Perus mountains with a tribe that only spoke Quecuan (I was the first white person they had met). Meeting & helping Alan go skydiving, a travel crazy Canadian & now close friend, who became a quadriplegic in a car accident on the way to college. Building a school deep in a Guatemala jungle & seeing how differently people actually live around the world. Its funny I never thought I would travel this much or have such a passion for giving back. Before I left on this journey, I was wearing a suit and sitting in an office, every single day. Now I am writing this answer from a little village somewhere in the middle of Uganda, with nothing but a camera & backpack, learning to cook Katogo. I trekked with Mountain Gorillas yesterday, crashed an African wedding on the weekend & have helped install 80 water filters to schools, villages & orphanages all through Uganda over the past 2 weeks. Crazy how much a little bit of travel can impact & change your life! 3) How has technology changed how we travel and how will you use it on your worldwide adventures as Chief World Explorer? (Credit to Christine for the question) Technology had made travel even easier, more accessible & safer then ever before! We can pass a McDonalds in a different country & book flights, check reviews or contact friends in different countries all from our smart phone! Not only do I plan on sharing my entire trip in a way that people can experience every part of it with me - constant twitter updates, daily video diaries and weekly webisodes (including Behind the scenes, cooking & Q&A videos) - I plan on utilizing all of the online resources I have acquired over the years that make travelling and volunteering even easier AND sharing them with everyone else so that they can do the same! 4) What characteristics, attributes or personality traits make you the most qualified applicant to be Jauntaroos Chief World Explorer? (Credit to Sonia for the question) Very tough question Sonia as I am still blown away & glad I have been able to meet many of the other Jauntaroo entrants! Everyone seems to have the perfect qualities & bring something unique to the Jauntaroo table - so regardless of the outcome I hope I can travel & collaborate with them all! For me personally however I would have to say it is the way I connect with people & the unique situations I find myself in as a result. I definitely feel I can a lot into each day & I like that I can leave to explore a city, come home with very unique stories & 20 new life long friends. Just this weekend I attended my very first wedding. It was a traditional African wedding & I helped the groom carry home brew banana gin & goats into the ceremony before having to choose a wedding partner infront of 300+ Ugandans - I met him on the plane a few days earlier. Of course I am up for any type of adventure, am experienced at all types of travel (budget to luxury) & always travel with a positive & open mind. I believe I can fit in more then expected in a very short amount of time - but I definitely think it is the way I connect with people that will be my biggest asset :) 5) Jauntaroo has made a point of raising awareness for voluntourism and travel related causes. Is this something that is legitimately achievable when visiting a destination for such a short period of time? How would you best give back during your Chief World Explorer visits, utilizing the platform, media and technology provided to you? 100% this is something I am very, very passionate about and one of the main aspects of the way I travel! It takes so little to give so much and even if your volunteer experience is short it can still benefit the community in many ways. Not only are you helping out a community that has been so kind and opening to you - you are creating awareness to the issue and getting to know another important part of the area you are visiting.Over the years I have learnt many ways to quickly find very worthy causes I am passionate about and through social media and video, share these opportunities online with other travelers. I plan on participating in atleast one unique volunteer activity in each destination I visit and sharing a video and blog showing more information on how it can be available for others to get involved.I will also continue to fundraise for charity doing the fundraising challenges I do (specific to the country & incorporating local media & businesss) and also keep carrying and installing water filters where needed. Volunteering has been some of my funnest experiences and also the starting point to some of my best friendships. 6) Jauntaroo is about travel inspiration. What would you do during your travels to not only experience the world, but inspire others to do the same? I will keep travelling & living my life exactly how I am now! Seeking out new experiences every single day & sharing with everyone, just how amazing & diverse our world is! I still have so many places I want to visit & things I want to do & I love that I can share my experiences with thousands of people from all over the world & help inspire them to do the same! Travelling has changed my life in so many ways & I want to share that with everyone! I want to show everyone that travel isnt just possible, but easy, life changing & anything you want to do - you can do it! Real Experiences over Material Possessions isnt just my motto - its my way of life!
